Following
on from the highly successful workshops and performances held in
May, November and December 09 this project is aimed at both previous
participants and anyone with some experience in drumming and/or
singing. We have one full Saturdays rehearsal to prepare for a procession
and static performance in the Dorchester Festival on Sat 29th May,
playing the rhythms and songs of Maracatu - a Brazilian style of
music and performance related to Samba.
The
workshop will be led by Magic Drum facilitators Glyn Bush and Ralph
Cree, having been trained by Sam Alexander - an early member of
the first UK samba group, the London School of Samba who has established
samba groups across the UK, as well living in Brazil and working
with internationally acclaimed group Olodum. This workshop is recommended
for anyone with an interest in drumming or Brazilian music.
Participants
will then be performing in the Dorchester Festival 2010 in the Grand
Parade and onstage in South Street on Sat 29th May.
Drums
and percussion provided. Please bring your own lunch and refreshments.
